Close run in Mont-Sainte-Anne
There is no guy like Aaron Gwin when it comes to keeping calm and making a clean run. Qualifying on Saturday has shown that he would be able to win the World Cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne while he missed the top spot by 0.669 sec in the finals on Sunday. Teammate Angel Suarez managed to get on the 36th place which is his second best result this season.
Mont-Sainte-Anne depicted its best side. The forecasted rain on race day never showed up and the riders were able to show off their skills on the insanely fast track. Theoretically it could have been Aaron Gwins early World Cup overall win – but it was to be different. Aaron Gwin proved his skills in the qualifying and took top spot with 3.603 sec lead. Angel Suarez qualified 67.
Finals have been thrilling: When Aaron went out of the start gate, team mate Angel had already taken the 36th place with a time of 4:12.151 and competitor Danny Hart took a place on the Hot Seat. At the beginning of the track Aaron had made a small mistake but managed to get back on second spot in the split time. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough in the end: He missed the win by 0.669 sec. So it comes down to the very last round of the World Cup in Vallnord, where Danny Hart and Aaron Gwin are going to fight for the overall win.
Aaron is ready for the last World Cup race: „Although I barely missed the win, I realize that I’m getting stronger and faster from race to race. My last race runs were solid but I know I can do better. I am super excited about the last races this year.”
